Nobody stumbles into simple. It's the most deliberate thing we do.
It costs more to say less. Every simplification is a decision that had to be made, defended and maintained. Simple surfaces hide complex judgment — which is exactly why they feel calm.
Left alone, systems accumulate. Clutter is not a failure; it is gravity. The design decision is to resist it — to treat every new element as a cost that must pay for itself.
Complexity should have somewhere to go. That somewhere is structure. Simple on the surface is only possible when the complexity beneath has been organized, named and given a place to live.
Simplicity is the result of deciding what not to do.
